Alaska

Mary Peltola

Mary Peltola is running for Senate because she has seen firsthand how government is failing Alaskans.

She grew up on the Kuskokwim, fishing salmon with her father. Mary and her late husband, Buzzy, raised their seven kids there and spent long summer days at fish camp. For Mary, fishing with family is where Alaskans learn life’s most important lessons. Now, the state faces scarcity. Many fish stocks and returns have been decimated, and the salmon, large game, and migratory birds that used to fill freezers are harder to find. As a result, Alaskans are forced to buy more groceries at crushing prices.

Mary’s agenda will always be fish, family, and freedom, but she believes that future also depends on fixing the rigged system in D.C. that shuts down Alaska while politicians feather their own nests.

Mary is calling for a new approach. She contends that systemic change is the only way to bring down grocery costs, save Alaska’s fisheries, lower energy prices, and build new housing that Alaskans can afford. For her, systemic change is the only way to fill Alaskans’ homes with abundance again.

She wants Alaskans to see what she has seen and join her in fixing this broken system. Mary knows in her bones that there is no group of people more ready to save themselves than Alaskans. As Ted Stevens often said, “To hell with politics, put Alaska first.” Mary believes it is time for Alaskans to teach the rest of the country what “Alaska First” truly looks like.
